[UBUNTU SERVER] New Fonts With Java

I'm running Tomcat on a Ubuntu server and I cannot figure out how to get Java to recognize new TTF fonts. I install all my fonts to the /usr/share/fonts directory and I have rebuilt my font cache, but still nothing.

The weird thing is that when I apt-getted the mscorefonts those installed and are available to Java now. I just need to figure out what happened when I installed those and I need to be able to do it with any of my TTF fonts.

Anyone have any experience with this? I also run tomcat on OS X and Windows and both handle my installed fonts without a hitch, but my production server is Ubuntu SE.

Thanks a lot.
