what is easiest way to get output of "yum --security check-update" in HRF like csv or other? std rhel system. also, i forget, does the output include CVSS scores for each patch returned, and if not what the easiest way to get CVSS scores?
The first grep says to only get the items with alpha at beginning of line so will exclude the lines that start with "--->". The grep -v says to exclude the line that begins with "Loaded Plugins". The awk says to print the first field followed by a comma, then the second field followed by a command and finally the third field. Note the "," between fields to literally include the comma in the output. The output is therefore comma separated values.
By the way you don't actually have to use a CSV - you could import a text output into Excel using white space rather than comma as delimiter.
Also note that not all packages have all 3 fields though most do.
