Xubuntu trusty 10.04.1 : insecure shortcut on desktop ?
When i make a link on my desktop to programs i have installed previously, i get a warning when i click it, about it being in an insecure location, i am then presented with two choices, namely quitting or doing it anyway... is linking from the desktop not secure, or can i just ignore the warning ?

Unsecure links should be the least of your problems, since your whole OS is insecure. Xubuntu 10.04 is unsupported since April 2013 and has seen no security updates (at least for desktop software) since then.
It is highly recommended that you upgrade to a supported version. |

what is the exact error message?
where exactly is that link located (full path)? open desktop folder in terminal and "ls -al". if the link is a .desktop file, open it in your text editor and post the contents. |

when exactly do you get the error message, and when don't you? |

it seems you are using the word "link" as something that refers to the internet only.
however in linux a link is a different thing. please open a terminal window (you know how to do that, right?) and type "man ln" to get an idea of the misunderstandings happening here. also .desktop files have nothing to do with the internet per se. if you need our help, please be much more precise: http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-...html#beprecise after reading this, please answer all four (4) requests from post #6 in detail. |
