Question What files does the PATH variable get set during startup?

Looking to add lines to these files that echos date/time pwd and whoami to a logfile so I can see if they ever get altered.

Typically /etc/profile and the user's ~/.bash_profile.

However, there are plenty of places where the path is changed temporarily...

You could use something like this to turn up a few in scripts:
Code:
sudo egrep -sR '(^| )PATH' /etc
