Virus Scanner

Hello,

I have already browsed the forum about this.
I am looking for a good free virus scanner for Linux. I am running Fedora Core 3 on my laptop. ...or is it really not necessary to run a virus scanner on linux pcs? This seems so weird.

Oh, I also have another question. When I bought my laptop, it had Windows home installed, and all the drivers. Now I haven't got the drivers anymore, for example for wireless lan or my display... could anyone help me with this and let me know where I can download the drivers?

Thank you,
Jenny

There a number of posts covering the use of anti-virus software under Linux. The most common is ClamAV, however in general virus solutions are mainly aimed at mail servers rather than home desktops under Linux. Similar to spyware, which again is covered in a number of threads.

As for your hardware, most of your devices won't need the Windows drivers to work under Linux, with the possible exception of your wireless card. Maybe let us know what hardware you're having problems with and we could help, or check out the HCL on this site for a list of hardware tried + tested including configuration instructions.

Ok, I have done this:
# tar xvzf antivir-workstation-pers.tar.gz

When I type "antivir" to start it, I get this:
# antivir
AntiVir / Linux Version 2.0.9-6
Copyright (c) 1994-2003 by H+BEDV Datentechnik GmbH.
All rights reserved.

error (211): program file of AntiVir has been modified

What have I done wrong?

Thank you,
Jenny

As for the hardware... my laptop is a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo M1425.
When I switch on my wireless, it won't work.
Oh, and also, when I used Windows, I had a skype phone (usb), which doesn't work anymore... can I donwload drivers for that anywhere?
