GNU/Linux has an excellent reputation when it comes to virus-resistance, and you have access to tons of tools to protect your boxes from such nastiness. But don't be fooled into thinking that it's immune - there is currently no generic OS which is immune to viruses.

HAVP is an example of a tool you can use with your Squid for this.

Well, by using a Squid cache you should already be achieving bandwidth savings which speed-up the client's perceived browsing speed, etc. There's tweaks you can make to Squid's settings if that's what you mean. But they depend on what your system and network setup look like (which you have said nothing about yet). This would be an issue for a different forum, though, as it's not security-related.
