Verizon Data Breach Investigations Report 2012 (frequently made security mistakes)

You may have read "Gaping network port with easy-to-guess password? You ARE the 79%" and thought
"That's an interesting article, but I don't always trust 'el reg' because..."
  • their somewhat flip reporting style, and while this particular article isn't particularly flip, I'd like to investigate further
  • or just, I don't trust journalists...I bet they've distorted and oversimplified it...where's the source...gimme the source

Well, I am here to help! Or, more exactly this is there to help. A good read, even if afterwards you might think that the summary in the 'el reg' article did hit the high (most worrying) points, rather than needing to read the 90+ pages of the original in order to get there.
