Hi

Why do ineed to update the kernel?

why i ask because every time when iupdate
my OS(CENTOS 4) iget some error or just
the OS hang.

If idon't need to update the kernel

how can i tell yum to skip it and download the other
package.

Because the kernel can contain flaws and vulns that are fixed?
Because 2.6 evolves and newer kernels equal better support for stuff?

Don't talk *about* errors but post them in an appropriate thread in a LQ forum (not Linux Security).

Your yum config includes means to exclude packages IIRC. Check the config and the man page.
