That is just whatever was typed in by the person who registered the domain. To find out what you've got, run
Code:
cat /etc/redhat-release
rpm -qif /etc/redhat-release
But, as unSpawn said, both alternatives ("Red Hat Linux 7" and "Fedora 7") are unsupported and many years out of date.

There never was a "Fedora Core 7". The word "Core" was dropped from the name after FC6. The other "... 7" possibility would be Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7, which has not yet been released.

Maybe you have intimate knowledge of things but personally I wouldn't want to comment on it without knowing the state of the system...

"The issue with the ssh server" as you call it is just a symptom. The real issue here is using an old distribution release, relying on a web-based management panel and its panoply of stale software and the absence of hardening and regular auditing and maintenance. The result is a cracked server, potentially leeched data and credentials. As you haven't posted any other information I asked for I suggest you inform any users of the machine, have them and you change credentials on any machine that accesses this "victim" system or other systems accessed from this one.

The backup you make will only be used as reference. That means no short cuts, no easy way out: no data should ever be imported in a clean machine without thorough inspection.
