Testing network security

I have to moniter a Novell network and am new to this, luckily, I am not the only one working on it. I need to check on the security of the network, and want to know if I can get some software that is used to collect passwords and mapping tools that could potentially be used to attack my network. Is there anything like that?

Nessus looks good, but alas, precompiled for i386 only.

I'm checking out BackTrack.

Do a search for "penetration testing tools"

Keep in mind that using a vulnerability scanner isn't the only part of doing a security assessment. There three types of vulnerabilities are software, configuration, and hardware. If you only check for software vulnerabilities then your assessment will be incomplete. There should also be policy and procedure reviews, so don't just scan your network with Nessus and consider yourself secure.
