telneting to router

I have a Linksys model BEFSR41 router, I've read that you can telnet to a router. I'm not sure what one would do after telneting to a router but I would like to know if I could telnet to my Linksys router and what I could do once there. I have read the book that came with the router and searched the Linksys website with no luck. I just want to play around with the router.

Thanks

first time you should use logon console to configure router, like setup the ip and so on

Those linksys routers usually don't allow telnet to them but you can enable offsite access to them to change the settings from outside your internal network.

trickykid your right my Linksys router does not allow telent access, but I can now access the router through the web using my IP address.

Thanks guys
