Hi,

I have a log file (/var/log/secure) that I would like to store in a database.

The aim is to build a small frontend that queries the data from the logfile, to build patterns of people that logged in, who did what to a file and so on.

First step though, id like to just append the data from there straight into a table (on an ongoing basis, as the log file gets more data)

The logfile looks like this

Mar 16 09:22:01 VRRP1 pure-ftpd: (user@host) ACTION
Mar 16 09:22:05 VRRP1 pure-ftpd: (user@host) ACTION
Mar 16 09:23:01 VRRP1 pure-ftpd: (user@host) ACTION
Mar 16 09:23:15 VRRP1 pure-ftpd: (user@host) ACTION

And all i want is the date/time, user@host, and action appended into an ever growing MySQL table.

This really belongs in programming, but to answer your question with a question -- Have you looked at the plethora of software that already exists to do this?

No point in re-inventing the wheel here ...
