SSH:Skeyauthentications ... where is the sense????

Hello

I was collecting a few informations about ssh on www.ssh.com, ...but there are still answers missing:
  • - everywhere is written, skeyauthentication enables a one-time-password-authetication-mode....well, so, you're gonna get a new password generated, everytime when you're logging in, the recently used password is cleared again.....
...nowhere is written the following:
  • 1. which is the algorythm, ....how these passwords get generated...?
    2. what's the sense of it`````?????
....well, so...my basic question is:
why isn't there a tally sheet....or how are we able to get this one-time-password for every time as new..... whitout a tally sheet....?
......greetings & thanks for every hint...

S/key is used with token devices I believe. You need an external device to implement it.
