Squid VS Privoxy
I have been running squid for several years now and lately had done some readin on privoxy. I have never implemented it though and I thought I might try to see if I could get some input from some people out there that are currently using privoxy or have in the past. Other than the special tools it has for the junkbuster routines, is it basically a standard proxy server that sets up a localised cache on your system that can be fed to a LAN? Any info you guys might have out there would be great. I am also interested in the operational speed comparison between the two.../p
Found this thread when searching for "privoxy". Hope it is OK to add a question?
Have set up a linux server box, using Feather linux + iptables + dhcp3-server, with the following hardware:
ADSL modem/router --> eth1 --> linux server box --> eth0 -XO-> wireless AP ----->---> LAN of several wireless connected boxes
192.168.0.1 -------- 192.168.0.2 -------------- 192.168.1.1 ----- 192.168.1.2 ----------- dhcp'd from 192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.200
The above works fine.
Problem is that after I installed privoxy, it ran and I could access the web-based configuration page on the server box but, despite trying a series of "listening" IP addresses on the LAN boxes, could not get the proxy to work.
Any suggestions on the setup of privoxy on the server and the correct configuration of the LAN browser proxies much appreciated.
