Somebody riddle me this please, why wont my rules allow me to have internet in Mint18 Mate ?
http://imgur.com/a/5bKhQ, this ruleset works fine in Mint17, has for awhile. My new ruleset in Mint 18, http://imgur.com/a/rBU6W will not allow me internet access. Somebody care to guess which port, or possible incoming connection I would need that was changed in Mint18. Yes, I have restarted and restarted the firewall, if I deny out, no internet. Thanks
Blame anyone ?what ? You want me to read a primer on UFW ? I am not a master or such of it but why the hell do the same rules that worked for years in many other installs now dont work in mint 18. Not only that my openvpn worked just fine in mint 17 with those rules as well, and now it simply will not work with the rules I had been using. A basic primer on UFW is gonna help me sove that riddle ? Thanks for nothing friend.

A a habitual troll ? Tells me to read about a system I have been using successfully for years ? I showed you two screenshots, they were identical, wtf does UFW have to do with it. Something has changed in mint 18, arrrrgggg. The same godamn rules, that worked for years, break my vpn, and block me from the net. What has changed. Sure I must have made mistake, but f*&**, I liked 18, really slick looking. Im just gonna have to go back to 17 if I cant have the functions I need to for a distro.. Kinda of a routine thing in mint distros though. Have had to revert for almost identical reason, some fancy, fixed when was not broken "improvements" of the network manager.
Habitual is a pretty smart cookie. From my personal experience of knowing him online for years.
Getting mad at him just makes him grin even more. So you are just spinning your wheels and
shortening your lifetime with inner angst. Because we don't just GAF.
Anyways. How did mintwifi work out for you? Just curious is all. It usually spits out tons of info.
I figured it might show what is being blocked with a error message is all. I don't run Mint anymore.
So I do not know.
No wheels were spun, just why waste the time to type the equivalent of "google it"? Those who GAF are in an extreme minority, tis to be expected a troll or two would have some worthless condescending advice, and then your too cool for mint to so. I am suprised I even got a response. I have had almost identical issues in the past that were never resolved, just had to install something else. Just kinda bummed because this is a nice looking distro, and I was getting used to it. Kinda spoiled by network managers and openvpn actually working with a minimum of effort. I am not smart or hard working enough, nor do I type fast enough to really geek. I do like some flavors of linux though. Boo Hoo, I will have to go back to 17. Probably is an answer floating out there. Thanks anyway, caprice !
Hi! I subscribed at beginning of Thread because interested in learning firewall. I hope you don't give up.
I don't have 'resources' (old netbook) to run GUI well, so couldn't try like the screenshots.
mintWifi just seems to show 'net is working' (Mint distro only; no fw info; my VBox not wifi)
I just discovered to do `sudo ufw allow ssh`, so I could login (from XP putty, to copy/paste)
(I'm guessing that you don't need this, for OUTgoing stuff only) Can you ping ok? web?
If you're willing, I'd be interested in seeing your `ufw status` (Ctrl+Alt+T for terminal):
Code:
user@user-VirtualBox ~ $ sudo ufw status verbose
Status: active
Logging: on (low)
Default: deny (incoming), allow (outgoing), disabled (routed)
New profiles: skip
To Action From
-- ------ ----
22 ALLOW IN Anywhere
22 (v6) ALLOW IN Anywhere (v6)
user@user-VirtualBox ~ $ lsb_release -d
Description: Linux Mint 17.3 Rosa
Best wishes... I like the ...Peaceful... in your id Sorry 'things' 'went south'
p.s. My apologies in advance for not writing well; it took me a whole DAY to come up with just this, but I had fun learning!
