Slackware + Apache + SSL

Hello all, im new here and this is my first post

I just installed Slackware 9 on my machine and im trying to get SSL to work with apache. But im not having any luck. The apache server works fine in normal setup straight after installing slackware. going to h*tp://10.12.41.1 brings up the page that tells me apache is installed and that interface to OpenSSL (mod_ssl) is installed also.

So the next step i did was i made my own ssl key by following some tutorial on the web instead of buying a real ssl key from versign just for testing.

then i made some changes in my httpd.conf file and these are the changes.

Listen 443
Listen 80
ServerName 10.12.41.1
Include /etc/apache/mod_php.conf (un-commented that, not sure if u should though)

then i also made changes to the mod_ssl.conf file and these are the changes.

##
## SSL Virtual Host Context
##
<VirtualHost 10.12.41.1:443>
# General setup for the virtual host
DocumentRoot "/var/www/htdocs"
ServerName 10.12.41.1
ServerAdmin you@your.address
ErrorLog /var/log/apache/error_log
TransferLog /var/log/apache/access_log
SSLCertificateFile /etc/apache/ssl.crt/server.crt
SSLCertificateKeyFile /etc/apache/ssl.key/server.key

after i made those changes i started apache by apachectl startssl
i get these messages

[warn] module mod_ssl.c is already added, skipping
Apache/1.3.27 mod_ssl/2.8.12 (Pass Phrase Dialog)
Some of your private key files are encrypted for security reasons.
In order to read them you have to provide us with the pass phrases.
Server 10.12.41.1:443 (RSA)
Enter pass phrase: (i entered the pass phrase here)
Ok: Pass Phrase Dialog successful.

then i tried h*tp://10.12.41.1 and h*tps://10.12.41.1 both address doesnt work. so i checked the error log in /var/log/apache
and it says

[warn] module mod_ssl.c is already added, skipping
[crit] (98)Address already in use: make_sock: could not bind to port 80

so i guess something else is trying to use port 80, i stop and started apache and even rebooted but i still get that something else is using it.
but once i commented out Include /etc/apache/mod_php.conf from the httpd.conf file i dont get the error anymore but i dont think SSL is loaded since it didnt ask me for a pass phrase.

Sorry for this long post, but i need help as you can see
I've tried everything and i still cant get it to work.

does creating a ssl key in a different way matter? did i mess up on creating the ssl key?

thanks
Laura
