Or need I be the only one to be using the modem? Wi-Fi can be spied on, and multiple users gives away the IP address and I could be hacked and robbed...?
Two of us use Linux with apparmor and firewalls. But I want to avoid spyware and privately set up a website. And we purchase online, so keylogging is a danger.

For Privacy either TOR or VPN would be fine. That will limit the stuff a website can collect from you. And firewalls and the like is always a good idea.
I haven't used apparmor so I cant say anything about it.
Unfortunately, today most malware does not break in but it breaks out.
So connections are started from inside and goes out the firewall, not from the outside, in. Most people allow everything from the inside to go out.
Usually from malspam - that being users downloading stuff or clicking links or opening Office files.
Running Linux decreases your risk of getting malware quite a lot. :)
I would say you should be good with most firewalls if you dont click those mails that claims you can win iPhones and stuff.
And for privacy, VPN or TOR would be fine but I am not sure how needed they really are for most users.
