Shared File Encryption
I have a Linux box running a samba file server which is accessed by an XP machine. On the Linux box, I have a shared folder with documents in it. Is there a program that someone can reccommend so that I can encrypt/deencrypt the files on both my Linux and XP machines?
For example I have textfle.doc in my Linux shared folder. I want to be able to encrypt this file, but be able to access it and deencrypt it on my XP machine, make any changes that I need to make to the document, reencrypt it and send it back to the Linux file server... Anything that makes this easy/do-able? |
bestcyrpt is one solution that works bothways, but it's hard to find a flawles solution, since it is a problem with file system.
I was using bestcrypt, but it gave me lots of BSOD on my XP when encrypting/decrypting files on samba |
GPG?

Ok, GPG - does that mean GnuPG? I took a look at GnuPG.org and there is so much to download. What would I need to get it working with a GUI under redhat 8.0? Also, is there any support for windows xp? I need to be able to encrypt and decrypt on both sides.

GPG (or GnuPG if you prefer) is probably your best option for encrypting a individual files. There are GUI utilities (such as WinPT) to make things easier. Search the Encryption section of the Software Directory on my site.

Thanks, that was what I was looking for.
