shall I need an av or a firewall??
I have used RH linux for months I heard that it is safer than windows and most virus do not infect it
but I always worried about my pc would infect some virus or some trjan horse would get into my pc when I visited some unfamous sites what shall I do ?? thanks for your replies :Pengy: :newbie:  |
Since there are not so many virus for Linux I personally wouldn't run/am running AV software. Unless ofcource you''re Linux box is running as a web-server or as an email server for, let's say mostly windows based clients, such as a small office.
Running a firewall is always a wise thing to do. You can let the Linux kernel do the work for you via iptables. Tough iptables itself isn't that easy to configure there are many frontends to iptables which make life a lot easier. An example of such can be found at www.shorewall.net |
You should always have a firewall up... check out IPTABLES.... there are also various graphical front-ends for setting up IPTABLES too...
As for an antivirus.. they are available... but you generally don't need one... |
Are the graphical frontends for IPtables any good?

Guard dog and webmin are pretty good.. google for 'em...
