I would like to replace our ftp server, which web developers use to upload web contents to the server, by some sftp server.
I don't want the users to do ssh.
Which software do you recommend the best for that ?
SFTP runs over SSH, that's what makes it secure. There are more secure 'regular' FTP servers, like vsFTPD, but SFTP needs SSH.
Not sure what you mean by "I don't want the users to do ssh"...rather than typing in FTP, they just type in sftp...use the client the same way, but connect over a different protocol. There are even GUI based SFTP clients...
When I install openssh, sftp also comes along with it. With such installation, users can do ssh and also land to command prompt.
What i really need is users to be able to do only sftp by some ftp clients and not get the shell access..
