sftp fails with konqueror using keychain after a while

Greetings,

I love using konqueror as a sftp client with kde 3.4.2 but I've got a weird issue that I can't figure out (Mandriva 2006). My production box runs ssh on a nonstandard port and only authenticates with certs rather than passwords. Now keychain is set up on the client so I've set it up and after a reboot, konqueror prompts me upon connection to enter passphrase and files go a flyin back and forth no problem. However, after a while ssh times out and I need to try to re-authenticate. No dice. I cannot reauthenticate with konqueror - "authentication failed"

I have a config file with host information and I can
ssh host or sftp host with konsole no problem with no prompts for the passphrase again, its just konqueror that loses its way. Don't even see the attempt in the server's auth.log either. Any ideas? Its such a beautiful way to move files around, I'd rather not have to scp -pPortXXXX etc each time even though it remembers the passphrase.

Many many thanks.

If a ssh tunnel ain't a usable workaround consider filing a bugreport.
