I'm new to Linux... Mandriva 2007 Free won't allow logins as root? I'm trying to get some .fw files into the /lib/firmware folder but I get "Access Denied" messages. It says that ROOT is the owner of the folder, and that only ROOT has permissions to add/delete things in the folder, but my Mandriva 2007 Free won't allow logins as ROOT. I did move my login to the ROOT group, but this changes nothing. What do I do now?
Log in as your normal user, open a terminal, type "su" (without quotes), press Enter and then enter your root password. You'll then have root privilages and so will be able to write to that folder.
