Question Report a hack?

I was hacked this weekend. Now that I have recovered and reinstalled everything, should I report this event to CERT, FBI ?? Is it a waste of time, does anyone have experience with this?

Thanks

gee, sorry to hear about that but i'm not sure if anyone will do much, my school had someone hack into their computer and they didn't bother reporting it as a school computer is small fish compared to say, a bank, but then again unless you have logs to show who hacked from where, then there isn't much you can do anyways, although these could be faked as well, but it doesn't hurt to try, good luck

Maybe forward what information you have to your ISP?

If you actually had important data stolen or vandalized you may want to get authorities involved, otherwise it is usual to whois the culprit, and send the logs and information to abuse@{cracker's isp} allthough this doesn't really gaurantee anything will happen...

Depending on the scope of the breaking you may want to report it to the authorities. Was the machine that was hacked a home machine or a business related machine? What was compromised? Questions like these should really make the decision for you. This should also help:

I have a feeling that the computer was "cracked" and that is what was meant in the original post.
