Rephrased virus question

I asked How does someone get a virus or worm on another post and i guess i didnt phrase the question properly so here it is rephrased.

Is opening an email the only way to get a virus or worm?

No, you can get it by opening an infected file, downloading email or just opening a web page. To name a few.

How can you get one just by opening a web page?
Thats sounds wierd.

I understand that Microsoft has never fixed the vulnurability in using the back button. IE doesn't check the html code for nastiness if you use the back button.

Mozilla or Opera don't have these security holes.

Don't use Outlook Express or Internet Explorer. Windows can be made much more secure by avoiding their internet software products.

You can even get infected just by running vulnerable versions of some software. For example, unpatched 1.3.* versions of apache have a hole in mod_ssl, that is vulnerable to the slapper worm.

I thought this was a security question?

No i dont use outlook or explorer ive heard many years ago about how insecure they are.

I use opera on my linux box and my 98 box and i use 98lite on my windows system which has made it way more stable than it was before.
