Remote Administrator Tool with Linux client and Windows Server
 

When I was on Windows I used to use stuff like PC Anywhere to get in my cousins's computer because he was always downloading spyware or screwing something up. The only way to fix it was to get in and do it my self. He's 15 and dumb as a brick and can't even follow instructions that a AOL user could follow. I wasn't very successful with PC Anywhere because it required him to install it and set it up. So I decide what the hell, I found a copy of Sub7 and used that. I figured even though it's considered a Trojan I still consider it a great Remote Administrator Tool. All he has to do is download and double click the server exe. Not much brains to do that. It's to bad Sub7 gets such a bad rep, it's great for helping to fix people's computers. You can edit the windows registry and do all kinds of maintance with out the user even doing any thing.

But any way, I was wondering if any one knows of any RAT's that I can use a client on Linux but have the server run on Windows. I get really annoyed and frustrated trying to walk people through steps to fix things they break. I always find it easier to get in and do it my self. It saves a lot of frustration.

VNC is probably the best and most compatible.

More recent versions have rdp servers in which case you can use rdesktop which will be much faster.

I think ultra vnc is better because it enables you to send files to the host computer from the client as well as to send messages and other utilities. In addition to this there is an installer that you can send in an email that will run automatically and will allow you to connect remotely to his pc without any difficulty. www.ultravnc.org

I agree with you that UltraVNC is great, BUT, it works well with Windows to Windows only. UltraVNC is not available for Linux. It just acts in basic VNC mode

A great feature of UltraVNC is that it enables encryption. regular VNC does not have encryption. I also do like the UltraVNC single-click and use it at work along with the Windows Remote Assistance.

****EDIT: Remote assistance in Windows XP is good, but it requires the client to open a port. With UltraVNC single-click, your client connects to YOU, so they don't have to worry about their ports. Again, this is Windows ONLY!
