Problems with Mullvad VPN in Fedora 25

Hi,

From Mullvad website: https://www.mullvad.net/download/all/ I downloaded the source package mullvad-61.tar.gz.
After inserting a command
Code:
sudo pip install mullvad-61.tar.gz
I got a confirmation that it successfully installed:

Processing ./mullvad-61.tar.gz
Installing collected packages: mullvad
Running setup.py install for mullvad ... done
Successfully installed mullvad-61

But when I input
Code:
mullvad
In order to run it, it shows me a warning:

changing directory to /usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/mullvad
Setting logging directory to /home/marcin/.cache/mullvad/log

(mullvad:30739): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: cannot register existing type 'GdkDisplayManager'

(mullvad:30739): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_once_init_leave: assertion 'result != 0' failed

(mullvad:30739): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_new: assertion 'G_TYPE_IS_OBJECT (object_type)' failed

And then nothing happens...

If I were you I addressed to the Mullvad’s technical support at first. I just visited their website and found their address support@mullvad.net. What is more, they have an elaborate FAQ section that explains most of the concepts where you may find your point of interest. If no one helps you, I recommend to look for another vpn service suitable for Linux https://www.bestvpnrating.com/vpnrat...est-vpns-linux Have a better one!

Reksio, any answer to this question?

I just emailed Mullvad with the same error message. Their fedora instructions to use openvpn are also wrong as they want us to install resolvconf as a package, which doesn't exist.

EDIT: Ok, I found an answer:

According to this page https://slethen.io/installing-mullva...-fedora-25-24/

Mullvad won't work because of a "bug in pygtk2". This user has a patched version on copr, but I doubt this is a working solution for all. You also have to install libappindicator-gtk3 if it doesn't pull it automatically, and while I can confirm it works, I may have to find a new provider unless Mullvad fixes this issue themselves.

Hey,

Just to let you know I've updated the dependencies to include libappindicator-gtk3, already being on my system required by a different package I didn't notice it when creating the RPM build script.

Also, have updated my package to the latest if you're still interested in using Mullvad on Fedora.

Hi Slethen,
Thanks for the updates. I'm sure there will be other people that will want to use Mullvad on Fedora and you made it possible for them. I went with Nord VPN though, as an alternative. Maybe after my subscription with Nord ends I will take a look at Mullvad again.
Thanks!
