Good grief, Charlie Brown! Does Micro$loth own your bank? What errors are you getting when you "try to login" from what other browser?

Before you did CrossOver Office and IE stuff, did you just try using Mozilla Firefox?

My bank has some pretty high standards, but I can go there with any browser...
post the link to your bank's website and let us try to get there...

NB: Don't post your login information.

It's worth another post just to say this...

Internut Exploder is the WORST web browser EVER shoved down the throats of poor, unsuspecting Windoze users! It's less standards compliant that tricycles on interstate highways!

If you MUST use Internut Exploder (any version) to visit your bank's website, you should IMMEDIATELY change banks!

Geez...we could all rant!

On my Debian box with Mozilla or Firefox I can't get into my bank or companies benefits site. On the site is said requires IE or Netscape 6 or above. So I went onto my Slack box and Mozilla was again a no go. Just loads a blank page. So I tried Netscape and what do you know. I had no problems.

Some sites have programmers that do the little gui thing that uses non-standard stuff. I take it Netscape adds non-standard extensions to Mozilla.

The website is http://anytime.ulsterbank.com/

I have tried Firefox, Konqueror, Epiphany, Netscape and Opera. When i try log in with Mozilla, firefox, netscape it just does nothing.
In Konqueror i get the message "BrowserName=Konqueror Is Not Officially Supported" and then it just stops.

I have actually talked to the bank who say it will only work with IE 6.0 and i feel the same way about "Internut Exploder " as you do.
I have complained about it but just thought there might be a way to get it working through cross over.

When i do try it through IE 6 with cross over is just stalls at

I'm actually booted into the darkside right now, because I had to print some photos and GIMP will only print with the gimp-print plugin, and with my HP 290C that's only 600 dpi. However, I just got there no problem with Firefox-1.0PR. Did you ever get a window asking if you would accept the bank's security certificate?

I'm booting to Slack right now to check it out...

matux 10-20-2004 05:29 AM

I never got the message to accept the security cert, only got it in Windoze.

I actually do get to the site myself through all of the browsers apart from IE 6 on cross over but when you enter in your details to login it just stops there, sorry should have explained that earlier.

Bruce Hill 10-20-2004 05:32 AM

Do you get to the screen where you enter your registration number and passphrase?

It does also say on their website
Quote:

# Browser Software

* Netscape Navigator version 4.7 or above, except version 6, or
* Microsoft Internet Explorer version 4.01 and above
I don't know the answer right now, but I'm willing to stake my lack of reputation that it's NOT Internut Exploder!

matux 10-20-2004 05:37 AM

Yeah i get there with all browsers apart from IE 6 on cross over. After that when you put in your details it just does nothing.

The only browser that gives any kind of error message is Konqueror which says "BrowserName=Konqueror Is Not Officially Supported"

Do you think maybe it needs the java virtual machine? Not sure if this is available or not for Linux at the moment. I have to go right now, but my friend darthtux is more than capable of taking care of you, if the HelpDesk allows him the time. ;-)

Here are two quick links I found concerning VM.

Ok will have a look at it, thanks a million for the help

matux 10-27-2004 06:39 AM

Just posting this to say that i got it working but through cross over office and IE unfortunatly.
I did try setup firefox and VM on linux as much as i could but no go.

The way eventually i got it working was to first install IE 6 in cross over, in doing this cross over also installed DCOM95
after that i installed 4 updates,

Internet Explorer Q834707
Microsoft Data Access Components KB870669
Windows 98 Q823559 Update
Windows 98 Q840315

After doing that it worked fine, no need for JVM.

It's really sad that you HAVE to use Internut Exploder to reach
your bank. Is it possible to get through the maze of junk on
the site and contact their IT department? I don't remember the
trouble I had with my bank, but they have a SSL email server,
and it took a lot of patience, but I finally got some IT guys to
work with, and the problem was solved.

Just seems like Bill Gates is making it one step closer to world
domination in the PC market when institutions require you to use
that junk he sells.

I don't know if this would work, but Firefox has an extension called User Agent Switcher that you can use to have Firefox pretend it is other browsers. Basically all this does is use allow the browser to send "incorrect" identification information. I know on one of my work sites that only supports IE, using this to prentend Firefox is IE allows me access. Unfortunatelyl they must have also done some IE specific coding becuase the site doesn't work correctly with Firefox. I think other browsers like Opera also have this capability.
