Problem with Root Login and other stuff

I didnt really know what to make the title...so anyway

When i installed Mandrake, successfully, i created my login. It was ramen and i have my password.

Now my question is, why can i not access the root folder? Or do any of the stuff that admin-types can do? And, how can i fix it?

try this....

#su -

enter your root password

as far as you being able to do admin type stuff from your regular account you will have to edit your /etc/sudoers file most likely...to do that type

#visudo

In the game of life it takes a root prompt to really foul up.

once u do
#su -

you are root...on that prompt

as far as the gui as root i think you can do it running xdm

#xdm

then hit ctrl-alt-backspace

you should now have a login screen instead of going straight to you user desktop.

type in root and your password.

another way to get a root gui is to edit your /etc/initab and change the line that says

id:5:initdefault:

to

id:3:initdefault:

then reboot....you will be booting to a command prompt instead of X...
login as root and type

#startx

hope this helps

I'm not sure on Mandrake but with RH9 and FC1 GUI login you can just type in root for username, and then the password for root and then you can have root GUI and do anything you want to your system
