POST not working , maybe?
 

Hello,

Thanks to the a few nights awake, and plenty of help from the linuxquestions.org gurus I have gotten my Linux box to run apache , and I am hosting pages from it ( I pointed my domain at it, I have yet to figure out the DNS route - but that is one of my next missions ).

Here is the problem the linux box works fine as a server, and I can browse pages on the net, when I try to put a post up for linuxquestions.org, or do a google search, ect ( any time I use POST to send info I think ) I just hangs , the rest of my computer works fine.

Is this a feature of apache to prevent someone from gaining access? If I reboot the machine it does not help, if I turn the apache server on and off also does not help ( apachectl start - while in apache's directory ).

Anyone know what this is and whether I should just let it be or I should change some .conf files ?

NOTE: One more thing I have enabled a dual boot on my linux box, and when I boot it into Windows it does not have this issue.

My initial thought, since you can turn apache on/off and it has no effect, is that apache probably isn't the cause... The other thing, is unless I'm mistaken, apache doesn't have a hand in your web surfing unless you are accessing your own apache hosted site.

Have you added/removed anything from a firewall ruleset recently? Or added/removed/changed any other software between the time of it working and not working in the fashion described?

No actually, I have changed nothing else, and this problem did just started ( from what I remember ) after I turned the apache server on.

I sure hope someone has a fix for this because at this point all i can think of is a reinstall of Fedora and then install apache again - not much to my liking - lol.

Hmm... It's tough to say, because I've never had an apache installation go nuts on me in this fashion...

What happens if you try to lynx the same situation? Maybe it's your browser/browser settings?

My only other thought at the moment is maybe you're using a browser that's using libs that apache has decided to restrict permissions on for various security reasons and accidently locked you out that way? Seems unlikely to me, but I guess it could be possible...

How did you install apache? For what distro? Anything else like that you can give would be helpful too.

Well it was the one off of a mirror that I linked to through the official apache site ( I am sure this is the correct site - I have been to the site before, because I have an apache web-server built into my MacOSX ) and I would assume that the links to mirrors that they provide are valid. I the one was i86 or something like that the only other choice for my type of computer was alpha and I do not think that is the type or computer I have.

What web browser are you using? And have you tried another and had the same or different results? That would be the next thing I would try. If it's the same result, then it's going to be easier to say it's something on more of a global scale. It'll be really good if this helps narrow down where things are going wrong.

What I'm really trying to save you from here is having to reinstall something (apache or the whole machine), when it still seems likely to me isn't necessary at this point. :)

I tried lynx like you suggested, and it worked. Now I'll have to find out what folder it has restricted access to w/ Mozilla. By the way thanks for all of you help so far.

Also I have taken the icon for Mozilla off of my dock ( so I don't click it by reflex ), but I would like to put an icon for Konqueror on the dock. Do you know how I can do this?

Anyone interested in the dock question I just asked:

When I drag something to the dock from the RedHat menu it appears in the same are as the running programs. To move it to where my Mozilla browser had been prior, I went right click the move, and moved it to the desired area.
