port scanners

I am curious as to what ports the are commonly used to scan with port scanners. I have checked out www.grc.com and I have a rating of stealth on all of the ports they check. However I was wondering if there was anyway to do a more thourough check on my system to see what was open.
I just recently made myself a firewall/router box from linux using iptables. I just want to make sure that it is as secure as I can get it.

dslreports.com

Hello bbenz3,

I got your email sorry i havent responed but i havnt found a solution yet for my problem.

About your port scanner question, www.dslreports.com has several utilities that can test your dsl or cable modem connection and even test your firewall and tells you what is open and stuff, try it out and let us know your score. Thanks, Jimmy

Hey thanks for the info. I tried it out with the free version and got a score of "0" which is supposed to be a perfect score.

If you want to test further you could try using nmap from a remote account, ftester or packet manglers like rain, isic or nemesis.
