You must run it as root user interactively as 'iotop -aoP' or better in batch node as 'iotop -aoPt>/var/log/iotop.log' and later on check the IO percentage header with 'less /var/log/iotop.log'.

You need to use 'more' or 'less' to read it. Contents, in your case, should be something like this:
Code:
*filter
:INPUT ACCEPT [0:0]
:FORWARD DROP [0:0]
:OUTPUT ACCEPT [0:0]
-A INPUT -m state --state ESTABLISHED,RELATED -j ACCEPT
-A INPUT -p icmp -j ACCEPT
-A INPUT -i lo -j ACCEPT
-A INPUT -j REJECT --reject-with icmp-host-prohibited
COMMIT
which should allow all inbound traffic if you connected to a remote server but not allow any remote server to connect to you.

None as it isn't necessary. You could run something like "gkrellm" which shows you CPU, load, Disk and network activity. Even though it does that in a less "scientific" way it may be easier for you to get a general idea of what happens.
Also note I moderated your other reply removing any unfounded allegations, any statements of a non-technical nature and anything else that could even remotely distract you from what you need to do in the process. Do read your email at the address you used to sign up for LQ and in the future please do not intersperse replies again with that kind of OT talk.
