I have a server centos 5.4

My admin has set password for root...& I want to see that password
in human readable manner .In addition i don't want to see it in "encrypted manner"...can i see this

I don't want to reset that password

your admin had a good reason to set the password unknown to you, i think.

No there is no way to see a unix password in an unencrypted way. Ask your admin for the password, otherwise there is no way for you to see it in an unencrypted manner.

Also i'm not helping to cheat an admin.

You better should not provide your email address in a forum.

Passwords are not stored in unencrypted form, and the encryption is intended to be non-reversable.

If you're not the admin of this box, then there's no way I know of in which helping you get the root password wouldn't be incompatible with the spirit of the LQ Rules. I'm closing this thread for that reason.

BTW, I've removed the email address from your post, as LQ is a community-oriented site in which discussions should take place in public, so that they may be of benefit to the greatest number of people.
