password problems with network drive

I have two machine hooked up on my network at the moment. I got my linux box accessing a win2k network drive. I got it all hooked up and fine, but everytme linux mounts it, the win2k box wants a password. I am mounting it using the mount command with a -smbfs arguement. in the -smbfs options I can either supply a username or password, or a credential file. Because I plan on using this drive often I have put it in my fstab with the credential file argument. now this crendential files isn't very secure beacause it is in plain text. I have try to set the premissions to 000 but then only root can mount the drive because my user account does not have access to it. I have tryed to use the enviroment varibles, $USER and $PASSWD, but the $PASSWD varilbe is not set on my computer, and I don't know if there is a way I can set it with out it being in plain text. Here is what I am looking for. I want to be able to access my network drive from my user account without having to type in a password, and without my password to be floating around on my system in plain text. Is anyway I can setup my credentials files to access my /etc/shadow? Is this something I can be doing with sambas?

Thanks

Another part of this I forgot to mention, (because I wrote this at 4:30 in the morning ) is the I put a user on my linux box that has the same username and password as my windows box, so that's why the username and password are in my /etc/shadow files. Thanks
