OpenSSL v0.9.6b (RedHat 8.0)

Just installing Apache v2.0.43 on a test-server and found the following interesting:

checking for SSL/TLS toolkit version... OpenSSL 0.9.6b [engine] 9 Jul 2001
configure: WARNING: OpenSSL versions prior to 0.9.6e have known security holes

Okay I got a reply from the RH Security Team:

"Our OpenSSL packages in 8.0 and provided as an errata to previous distributions are based on OpenSSL 0.9.6b but contain backported security fixes. See for example: http://rhn.redhat.com/errata/RHSA-2002-160.html"
