No internet connection after uninstalling Guarddog
 

I'm running Mandrake 9.2. I originally had Mandrake connecting to the internet no problem. I wanted to put a firewall on so I tried Firestarter - didn't like it - removed it - no problmes - I could still connect. I tried Guarddog - didn't care for it - I removed it - haven't been able to connect to the internet since. I've tried configuring the connection several times. It just isn't working. What did I do wrong? Why can't I connect anymore? BTW - its a DSL connection.

I'm a newbie, so type slowly.

Please list the errors you're getting (especially with pinging IPs and hostnames) as well as more specific info on how your box gets it's own IP/DNS info (ie from a router/DSL modem, directly from ISP, etc). Also giving the output of iptables -L would be helpful as well.

The only errors I am getting is something like "your system will not connect to the internet". That's when I try to re-setup through internet connection wizard. I'm using a DSL modem. Where do I find pinging IPs and hostname information and ip tables?

Do you know how you are normally supposed to connect to the DSL modem, PPP, PPPoE, etc? Also what brand of DSL modem and ISP are you using?

It uses PPPoE. I believe the DSL modem is a Comtrend, and the ISP is Aliant/Sympatico.

Everything is working fine now. I re-installed guarddog and configured it the way I like. I'm still not sure why my connection wouldn't work when I uninstalled it unless it wasn't uninstalled correclty.

I don't use guarddog, but I know it includes tools that automate some of the network configuration stuff like DHCP. You might have just needed to play around with the networking configurations, but if you're happy with it, then that works too.
