NFS security


Hello,

I am interested in any documentation, links etc about NFS security also any tools, examples of commands to test vulnerability of my NFS server.

I would appreciate if you could clarify this...

There's not a huge amt of security built into NFS, as it's basically a file sharing app. However:

1. on the server, check the ipaddr + mount options carefully eg root_squash (should be the default) and ro vs rw.
2. uids on the client and server should be the same: check the dir/file ownerships+perms (server)
3. Use a centralised login system eg NIS/LDAP; if you want encrypted login, LDAP+TLS
