netstat: ipp listening, why?
I am fairly new at Linux so you might have to explain things. I am using SuSE 10.0 with a stand alone workstation. I am using the SuSEfirewall2. I don't need any services so I turned a lot of them off, but I notice that my DSL modem activity light flicks constantly. So I did a Netstat:
tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:631 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN
tcp 0 0 *:ipp *:* LISTEN 6795/cupsd
If I turn off cups , the above port stops listening, but, I can't print to my local printer. All I want is to be able to use my printer without having that port open. Can you help?
Thanks
