Locked out of RH 9

Hi,

I enabled SMB support on my RH 9 workstation through the gnome 'authenication' utility and rebooted, now i am unable to logon at the prompt [login screen]. root is unable to logon either.

...any ideas?

Try.. ah.. ctrl-alt-f1 and logging into a text console?

Sure,

i can get on that way, just that i have no idea how to fix things to get a logon to happen with gnome. i only need to get my mail out of ximian. after that i dont expect to ever use redhat again.
