Lock terminal session

You know in windows how you can press CTL+ALD+Delete then hit K to lock the session; is there any way to lock a terminal session? If so can it be done standing in front of the machine and from a ssh session? We do not use X so it needs to be from the console.

If you already have 'screen' installed, you can lock a terminal by pressing 'ctrl-a x'.
