iptables error...

Recently I've taken upon the task of getting my own server working and since Amazon.Com was selling RedHat Linux 8 for $5 I decided to buy it. Once I installed RH 8 I was happy to know it came with a firewall and so I told iptables to let connections from port 80 through. I saved my changes and was pretty happy until I opened the iptables program again and I noticed it was set on high. I changed it back to let port 80 through again and saved it. I then checked it again and it was back on high. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thank you...

ftp.redhat.com
/pub/redhat/linux/updates/8.0/en/os/i386

Do some updating of your kernel and userland and give it another go.

rpm -Uvh *.rpm

Or run up2date.

The kernel has been upgraded, which is from what iptables springs.

Umm... It it isnt working. Up2Date is giving me the check mark and why go to the folder for the i386 anyway? According to a JavaScript code I have the Linux i686 X11.

Redhat 8 has a weird bug in it that no matter what level you set the firewall to, the GUI will always say "HIGH" when you open it. However, any changes you make to the settings are still applied. If you want to confirm you changes, just take a look at /etc/sysconfig/iptables. You should see a line that allows port 80 connections.
