I have forgot my linux root passwd

I have lost my linux root passwd. My linux-8 starts with GRUB.

I have tried "single" entry at the end of kernel entry. But it is booting as usual. No single user mode of shell prompt is comming.

What to do ?? Please help me.

To boot into Single-User mode, follow the steps in this document.

When the system is booted, to change the root password, type:

When grub displays its menu, press e

Select the entry that has the kernel related parameters

append "single" or "1" (without quotes)

and hit b to boot.
