Unhappy I can't add users to "samba users" in control center

Hello.
My goal is to setup a Linux server as a file server, with permissions, on a windows workgroup.
I managed to install Linux (Suse 9.3), with Samba included, and configure it to the point that it can be pinged and located on the network by an XP machine. From there I can only log in as root user.
I think I've identified where the problem lies. But I can not find a way to change it.
When I go to the KDE Control Center, I go to "Internet and Network", then "Samba". Once in there, I see five tabs. If I go to the "users" tab, I see "samba users". And only "root" is in there as a Samba user.
On the right side of the screen, I see "Unix Users". This is a list of all users, including the ones I created. When I highlight a user I want to add in to the "Samba Users" it prompts me for the user's password (enter, then confirm). When I do this, it puts the user in there, with root, but I don't get the option to save the change. When I exit out, and then go back in, the user I've added isn't there anymore.
And it does this while I am logged in as root, making these changes to Samba.
I've tried alot of things. Nothing works. Any ideas?
Thanks.

wow..you nailed that one

Thank you! That was it. Why do they add the interface, when it just holds you back?

Thanks.
