Question how to track user's all activities?


Hi ,
I am thinking about logging the user's activities on fedora Linux Terminal Server to ensure that the system is using properlly and to analysize the system usage.
Do any guys have the same experience or some ideas?Thanks so.......much in advance.

I have used LTSP a lot and usually just look over the shoulder of the user...

If you want a mechanical device, you could try
top -U joe -d 30 > /root/joe_processes&

That will show snapshots of what joe is running. Assuming your system is secure, joe should not be able to run anything harmful, but you may be concerned about network traffic, open files etc.

lsof |grep joe

will show open files.

ethereal or darkstat will show network traffic assoicated with a particular network interface.

With vnc or X you can show joe's screen on your's.

what I really mean is to log user's activity,such as login and logout time as well as all application/process information accociated with uses.Put user's activity to some log files so that I can analyze system later.
Anyway,thanks a lot.

i tried looking for a program that does that, but havn't foudn anything, so you'll have to bash it yourself

Tried ps accounting (psacct package in Redhat) or even Sebek ?

where can I download process accounting software package running on Knoppix linux?

Hi all,
