How to stop SSHD process????

Hi,
How to i stop the SSHD from running. I try /use/sbin/sshd stop and i get an error saying that there is an extra arguement.

The reason i want to do this is because why have it running if no one is suppossed to be ssh-ing into the server.

I dont want to remove ssh, i just want to have the ability to stop and start it.

Thanks as always

Adam

the server should be stopable by

/etc/init.d/sshd stop
or
service sshd stop - not tried that one... i think that command works...

this sshd is a different thing to the one in /usr/bin. that one is the actualy program, whilst the init.d file is a script whcih controls it.

Is it redhat? An easy way is to type "setup" and deselect sshd. Next time you reboot it will not run.
