Have you looked at sftp? It's part of the ssh package, even uses the same port. For my server, I've firewalled port 21 and use sftp exclusively.

Putty makes a great sftp client for windows called psftp. You can find it here: http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~s.../download.html
With it you won't need Proftp at all.

From you rmessage you are trying to create a FTP Server. If you want to do that you can either use ProFTP or WUFtp. Make sure to make it a change rooted ftp server or the people loggin in will be able to traverse all of your file systems.

sftp is a great ftp client. ssh also has some features that you can create a chrooted ssh/sftp enviroment, if you want to use ssh. The benifit of this is that the traffic is encrypted and not clear text.

If you use ProFTP or WU and make it chrooted, you are on your way...

Do NOT use Wu-FTPD if you want a SECURE ftp server. I suggest vsftpd with VIRTUAL users. Search the forum for my thread regarding it. I have set up vsftpd with virtual users and it works fine :-)

This will also be a topic at my upcoming website
