1. boot into single user mode: When the GRUB menu comes up, hit tab to stop the countdown and enter "single" at the end of the kernel line.
2. boot from live CD, mount the Linux "/" partition, and edit the /etc/passwd file to delete the first "x" in the entry for root. The entry will then look like this: root:: <+other stuff>
i need to reset the Root password for our server because the Systems Administrator left the company without leaving it
I think u don't worry about it pls try this way: To Start pc, u will see The Grub boot roader menu then press tab to stop the countdown then type "init=/bin/bash". the konsole will running as root. u can type "passwd" to change new root password.

boot your system at grub screen select linux option press e then select kernel line press e the select grub line at the end of line delete at thing after / the write there linux 1 and press enter press b now u will boot into single user mode change root password with passwd root command and restart
