Horror GirlFirend Checking on my PC.

Recently,my girlfriend was was surfing using my PC.
To my horror i caught her scanning through my PC files.
Example
1)recent openly documents
2)Website that i have visited.
3)files that i have downloaded.
Many more....

I find that i should at least desreve some privacy
on what i have been doing on my PC.

Therefore, could anyone teach me how to COMPLETELY remove
all traces step by step.
1) Downloaded files
2) cookies
3) Visited Website
Blah blah & blah...

PLease be detail. Still a Newbie....

easiest way is to have her use her own login.

Dump the girl"friend".

And for god's sake, man! Don't even think about upgrading from girlfriend 3.0 to wife 1.0. The default config. simply *cannot* be changed at that point without re-installing the entiire operating system! It's *very* costly.

just make sure you each use separate user accounts and don't let her use yours...

make your home directory non-readable to her with a:

LOL++

novkhan: Essentially what you want to do is manage the permissions on the filesystem so that your girlfriend (I'll use the term loosely) cannot access or modify your own personal data. LQ actually has a tutorial on file permissions that you may find helpful. Best wishes!

All of my girlfirends have barely been able to use a computer, let alone know enough to check up on my online activities.

But yes, like everyone else mentioned, lock her out of your account and then just to be paranoid/safe strenghten your root password too!

It does not really matter if she is computer savy or not. You need to be honest with her and if you have strong feelings for this girl then you should be able to talk to her about your privacy, (although it should be self explanatory), and if she can not respect that then your relationship is going nowhere anyway.

If she is checking on you for a reason then she already has issues of trust and you are both wasting your time if you can't resolve it.

Obviously the best way is to create her an account. You could lock your X display and open another that would be :1

And if the default permissions are to give read-access to
everyone on either ones home change that as well.

A different thought.... maybe she was just checking the websites/documents that *she* has recently used on your PC. -- J.W.

Just my twisted paranoid opinion. If she is checking your tracks and suddenly you delete them wouldnt that be worse then just letting her see what your doing? Now she would definitely think you were hiding something.
Why dont you ask her why she checking and move the element of guilt back on to her?

There's nothing wrong about stating your own desire for privacy. This kind of scare tactics just poisons relationships and it's worse than worrying about what's he/she thinking. This is not trust.
