hardening SuSe 9.0
 

Hello everyone
I have a server that is running Suse-9.0, and by default is has all these services that I know I shouldn't be running. The ones that I'm most worried about are SunRPC, and X11. I have been a network security buff for a while, although I don't claim to know it all, I know just enough to get myself into trouble! Anyway, I have found myself in a windows end users position. Previously I have been dependent on Bastille for linux, and its gui to harden and configure my systems services. Well thats not the unix way to do things, yeah I know. Well it turns out that Bastille hasn't made a new version for suse 9.0 yet. So I'm going to have to harden this server the hard way. Manually. I have used the yast utility to try and find a way to disable, or uninstall these services, but I'm not having much luck. Does anyone have any links to good docs or how-to's about hardening Suse-9.0. I'm not having much luck since Suse keeps all their files and stuff in weird places.

Try yast->software->remove or install software.
or yast->system->runlevel editor to diable the services you don't need. (SunRPC, etc)
