Guardog startup question

Do i have to start and run guardog every time I turn on my system or does it save whatever settings I have put in from last time? Thanks

Hello Baja,

afaik, guarddog is just a front end for iptables. thus iptables loads everytime the system starts using the config parameters you set up through guaddog

Regards

So I just need to configure guardog once and that actually configures Iptables so every time it boots its keeping the same conifiguration as last boot? Is there anyway to test my security on my Slack system? Thanks

yes, that's it. Concerning about testing your box's security
maybe trying scanning you ports remotely, checking open connections and so on; everything else is beyond my knowlegde...so far
some useful commands are:

netstat
lsof -i
nmap -v -v -v -S -T

hope this helps

On Slackware there is in /etc/rc.d/rc.inet2

if [ -x /etc/rc.firewall ]; then
/etc/rc.firewall
fi

Guarddog once configured will store your iptables script in /etc/rc.firewall, so it will be run each time rc.inet2 runs, which is at boot time.
