gpg automated encryption not working

Hi,

I am trying to automate gpg encryption as below. But It doesn't seem to work for some reason.

Code:
[user1@host1]$gpg -e -r 17346DBD --yes --batch -o evish.txt vish.txt
gpg: 0302D795: There is no assurance this key belongs to the named user
gpg: vish.txt: encryption failed: unusable public key
Any help is greatly appreciated

It says the public key is unusable, and unverified. You need to get a new key.

I think you just need to set the key as trusted (I'm assuming you really do know that the key is okay to trust), see Importing a public key and Validating other keys on your public keyring.
